Default Blasphemy?

Testing the waters here...Some friends of mine and I recently took off a Holley fuel injection system and put on a mass air 5.0 mustang fuel injection harness and computer on a ZZ4 engine. We used Ford sensors, throttle body and Mass airflow sensor. We used an edelbrock intake, fuel rails, and 24 pound injectors. I fabricated a distributor to make the whole thing work. It runs beautifully. It runs smooth, plenty of power, and very responsive.

Why did we do this, you're asking. Because, as much as I hate to admit this, the Ford system is more tolerant of modifications. You can throw all kinds of trick parts at it and never have to hook up a laptop and reprogram the damned thing. I know of Mustangs around here with cams in the .550 lift range and boost in the teens with no ECM modifications. I have a friend with a supercharged Mustang GT that runs 11.50s at 5000 feet in Albuquerque on a stock computer. I'm sure some tuner could tweak it and get more out of it, but how many of us would like 11's without having to reprogram the ECM every time we change a cam, injectors, or supercharger pulley? I have a supercharged LT1 that I would love to be able to do this to without having to start from scratch (damned opticrap).

The reason I'm posting this is because I think this system would be great on a modified tuned port engine and even better on a super ram. If this works like I want it to, the only part that will need to be changed on the intake is the throttle body. Everything else can stay GM. It's sequential, parts are very plentiful and not terribly overpriced, and fairly reliable. You can change injector size and just calibrate the mass air for them. System diagnosis isn't quite as easy as GM, but it will self diagnose. I'm curious to see if the interest is out there to make it worth our while to try it out on a tuned port and maybe put a package together. The distributor is the key and hand building them would make the kit too expensive. To have an outside company build them is the other option, but they'll want volume.

I'm sure I'm not the first guy to do this, but I did a search here and didn't turn up anything. Is there any interest here among the tuned port guys to make pursuing this worthwhile? Or should I just be proud of myself for building something kind of unique and call it good? It wouldn't be cheap, I'm guessing $1500-2000 for everything, but I think it would be worth it and besides, that's what alot of the aftermarket stuff goes for.

So if anyone is interested or has questions, let me know. Like I said, I'm just testing the waters here.

PS.... if the ECM is under the dash, nobody has to know there's a blue oval on it.

thats just the thing, why do it if you can go aftermarket for the same price. along w/ going aftermarket for the same price you can tune, adjust, scan, etc.etc.
not a bad idea mind you. if you dig thru the boneyards, it would be possible to do for next to nothing. but if your gonna buy it all new, may as well go with f.a.s.t., dfi, or tec3.

The reason the idea struck me is the fact that you don't have to tune it. I think tuning is a black and white area, either you can't wait to tweak on it or you absolutely hate the thought. I'd rather just turn the key and have it run good. It may not be as good as the aftermarket stuff, but I think it will be pretty close. For those without the time and equipment to do it this may be an alternative. Plus once you factor in the computer and accessories you need to tune the aftermarket stuff, it'll still be cheaper (I think).

That's why I threw it out here, see what you all think. Toss the idea out and see if it floats!
