Someone recently posted a module for defeating the ASR, so that it was off when the car was started, and only turned on with the push of the button (rather than the way it is now- on until you turn it off)
Does anyone remember the website to buy the module?
Thanks
Find someone with some electronics ability and tell them to build you a "one shot" timer from a 555 timer chip that is available at Radio Shack for about $4. It can be set for a couple of milliseconds after the ignition is activated to disable the ASR.
I got something that works great. Its called a delay timer relay. When you start the car the module closes a set of relay contacts that are wired across your ASR switch for a couple seconds. Which is more than enough time to disable the ASR on start up. The contacts release after a preset time giving the driver the option to enable the ASR again by pushing his dash switch.
And guess what it costs $25! You can buy it direct from Fair Fax Electronics
(800) 447-0387 Their website: http://www.at-fairfax.com/index.htm
Or you can call ELK @ 800 797 9355 and ask to see if there is a local distributor in your city. I got mine for $15! And I install them for $100 in customer cars at our shop. Sure beats the hell out of $475!
Product is a ELK Timer module PN: ELK-960
I shouldn't be letting out all of my secrets :seeya
Full boogie,
I can't believe anyone would pay $475 for that. What does it really do?
The module I think I remember was $30 or $40. Sounded much like a ready made delay such as tjwong describes. Except it was already built and a simple plug in.
Lord I hate my Alzheimer's. I wish I could remember the site.
Anyone else remember seeing the ASR defeat module somewhere?
I have the drawing ready for anyone that wants it. The drawing is sorta big (450k) and I am running out of room on the FTP site. So for those of you that are interested email me off post and I will email it to you, it is a PDF file so anyone with adobe reader can open it.
Cool, but mine does the same thing and costs about $15 depending on where you get it. And if you want a nice box you can get that at radio shack for $4 or less :) Only I tap into both switch wires basically parallels the GM switch. The reason I did that was that 94/95 cars has a different logic than a 96 OBD2 car. So the box I use is a relay dry contact that works as a switch in parallel. According to the manual 94/95 cars toggles a 12v input to the EBTCM while the 96 toggles a ground to the EBTCM.
The link you provided shows us where to get access to make the connections at the ASR switch. As I didn't have any pictures to add in my drawing.
Tom, it sounds like yours would be great, it's just that I'd remembered seeing the link I posted a few weeks ago and didn't really think much about it. My asr has saved me on wet pavement a few times, so I don't have a problem with it being a default on.
Thats a great link to let everyone know how it installs under the dash. For most intents and purposes its meant for the guy that drives AutoX or is a drag racer type. For the average guy most of them prefer the system auto engaged. I think in the year or so I have only done four or five cars.

TJ-
My car is a 96, so will your gadget still work? Also, I tried emailing you to request a copy of the pdf file, but it came back undeliverable. Please send to racerx@justice.com. Thanks!
He calls it a Traction Control Override System, rather than an ASR defeat. That's why I couldn't find it in the search. Jack says he has 3 models depending upon year of Vette. A little pricier than I thought I remembered, but looks like a good product. I'm gonna order one and see how it works.
I'll let the Forum know my results.
Just ordered my delay timer board per TJ's recommendation. Total cost with shipping: $27. What a deal! Thanks to TJ for this info and the wiring diagram.
