Dude, there are 8!! bolts on the lower end of the head! 17 total.
Don't crack your head! You need to take the exhaust manifold off and spray carb cleaner or something along there to clean it up so you can see what you're doing.

Thanks, Dave. They're my heads, so I'll make sure we look for another two bolts on each side (beyond the six known). It's hard to imagine where they might be hiding based on my recollection -- we had specifically searched for any hidden bolts after removing the initial four -- but I suppose liberal application of degreaser will reveal all. The Haynes manual helpfully cautioned not to miss any along the bottom row, but failed to mention how many there are to be found.
