Rear Y-pipe is beginning to rot, just noticed a good size hole on driver side. All original on there now with 54K miles. Looking for suggestions on replacement pipes. I imagine when I get to looking at the front Y and converter they will all need replaced soon so may upgrade all at once. No headers in the plan and I don't need to worry about emissions so a front Y without pre-cats is OK, but I will be keeping main converter.
A big consideration is what level of noise you are comfortable with. Some guys like it loud, some don't. Since yours is a roadster this is an even more important question. I don't like a lot of noise and resonance. When I was looking to replace the exhaust on my '86 coupe I had first bought a B&B TriFlow. It was a noticeable performance increase but lots of resonance in a certain RPM range. I eventually removed the B&B and sold it after finding a stock '91 coupe exhuast in like new condition at a salvage yard. The '91 coupe exhaust has less restrictive mufflers than previous years which is good for another 5 hp, according to the Corvette "little black book". These mufflers were considered too loud to be used on the convertibles by GM, but they are pretty quiet compared to most aftermarket mufflers. I also used the front "Y" pipe which eliminates the pre-cats and a new Walker high flow catalytic converter. I'm very happy with this setup. It was fairly cheap, sounds great and performs better than with the OE parts.
Thanks for the suggestions. I really don't want it loud, it already has some resonance at low speeds since I changed to some of the stock appearing 'high flow' mufflers from Midamerica a few year ago after the stock mufflers fell apart.
I have been eying the front Y without pre-cats and either the Borla or the Dynomax rear Y pipe. Better prices other than Midamer or Ecklers?
