i am looking to buy one and this guy emails me saying he has one for sale and tells me the code and years so i guess yes that is the number on the spring anyone know what it is? what is the ride quality what stiffness? anyone?
If you can get under the car (passenger side) you can read the code that your car has. My 86 had the HKX...soft ride. I bought a second hand spring that was marked FJY (also soft ride)....the replacement worked great. So, I guess the HKX and FJY are interchangable....does this help?

Re: front suspension ????? (redvette1986)
My '85 Z51 front spring is marked FHU.
The '85 spring rates are:
base: 308 lb/in
Z51 : 363 lb/in
In '86, there were 3 front springs from the factory. The convertibles had a slightly stiffer 'soft ride' spring than the coupes. This probably accounts for the HKX and FJY codes.
base coupe: 296 lb/in
base 'vert: 311 lb/in
Z51: 380 lb/in
