i have made 3 of these cables so far and cant get win aldl to do anything??/
i have tried the transistor both ways, and have tried it with and without the resistor between a&b, i have tried it with the car running than hook it up and even tried it with engine off than hook it up than start it......have checked the ports on the computer and they are ok what next?????
the car is a 85
Do you have a link to the cable you are building? Some of the ones floating around on the net will not be powered if you build them exactly as drawn and then use them in a Vette (or any GM for that matter).
Just curious.
The Radio Shack package I got was labeled 2N2222. The Transistors in the package were 2N3904. Both are NPN transistor and will work. The package diagram (EBC) is correct for the 2222 but not the 3904. The emitter and collecter are switched. Another problem was with the 10K resistor. I plugged it directly into the ALDL connector and at first it wasn't making good contact.

well i tried the transistors both ways, tried it one way and when it didnt work i desoldered and reversed transistor. unless that burnt them out??? how can you determin the correct pinout of the transistors? also i have seen the same diagram but without the R4 resistor, whichdosnt make sence to me anyhow. do you think it would work without R4? thanks
It says specifically dont use R4 on your diagram. R4 is for "carbed vehicles"- as in carburetor- which you dont have. Take it out and give it a shot. The same cable you are trying to build works great in my 85.
