Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum but hopefully somebody can help me with my "little" problem...
The overhead brake light on my '90 coupe that's appended to the hatchback window is not working. I pulled it off and pulled each bulb and did a visual inspection and each seems to be fine (looking at the filament for break). I also hooked up an ohm meter just to see if there was a circuit within each bulb and it seemed good. I then checked the voltage coming to the harness and nothing. Also checked the wireing coming into the harness for a circuit and it seemed good but could've been a false circuit throught the lights. I would assume that there is one set of wire running from the harness to whatever switch the light is hooked to (I would assume the switch at the base of the brake peddle). Is the same switch for the rear mounted brake lights used for the overhead one? I assume they're on different circuits or run in parallel since the regular brake lights work fine. I can also not find a fuse specific to the overhead brake light. I'm at a loss... Help trouble shooting or an anecdotal answer would be fantastic...
Verify that the brake lights do work. There are two sets of contacts in the brake lights switch. The first runs through the hazard flasher and turn signal switch to operate the brake lights. That should be the white wire (two on the lug at the output - white & an orange wire on one terminal for the input). The second is a straight shot to the third brake light. It's a blue wire. Verify 12 volts on the blue with the brake pedal depressed. If none, replace switch. Otherwise, check ground at the light and make sure neither lead is pinched at the hatch or underneath the cover where it enters. You might give it the "wiggle" test just to be sure.
