After reading many stories about 383 and 396 bore and strokers, is anyone not having over heating problems? If not, what did you have to do to keep her running cool?

I have never had a problem with running colder than I did with a stock setup or just as cool as any other C4. My fans both come on at 165 and I have a 160 thermostat. Car runs anywhere from 172-176 in normal conditions. Only seen 210-215 on rare occasions in stop and go traffic wth the AC on.

I see no reason why I stroker would run any hotter than a 350.

Probably, but not necessarily.

Burn more fuel= more heat

My 383 runs MUCH cooler than my 350 ever did. I think it's due to the fans coming on sooner. It has the same water pump/radiator etc.

The only time it runs a bit too warm for my liking is in blazing heat with the air on. Luckily, those days are behind us(where I'm located at least).

NOT! More displacement = More AIR and Fuel. No reason for more heat unless you are running a siameesed 400 block that does not have good cooling properties due to the cylinder placements.

Simply adding stroke and overboring the cylinders .+020-.040 is not going to have any effect on being able to cool the engine.

All I added to mine was a high volume water pump. I have seen 198 on very hot days. Otherwise, it runs near 175.
I did have my radiator checked and cleaned before installation with 383.

More fuel actually cools down the combustion process.

So the more fuel you burn, the colder it gets? This will save me a fortune on logs on the fire!!

I think you are getting confused with rich v weak mixtures here.

:iagree:

It's a perfect balance to produce power. More fuel and less air = less burned fuel = less power.

Less fuel and more air = more burned fuel and HOT air which = hotter cylinder temps which could lead to detonation.

Generally the more fuel/air you run through a motor the more power you'll put out and the more heat you'll create. efficiency is a different issue of course. What are we talking about here???

I give up. Just look at the three guys responses above (btw the ones that actually have stroker motors).

FWIW, yes energy creates heat, but just because the motor is a stroker is not going to make it run hot. The ability to cool an engine is all about what thermostat you are running and the ability of your radiator to dispurse the heat and moderate a given temperature with the help of your fans.

You shouldnt have serious overheating problems if you had it built right.

Anything that makes more hp will run a little hotter, by thermodynamics, but you can compensate for that by either putting in a better water pump or installing a larger radiator.

I believe the stock radiator is on the small side for a 350 to begin with, and the WP doesnt flow as well as some aftermarket models do now.

Me too

If you burn more fuel you will produce more heat.

Surely no one can argue with that.

(Do you know, I bet you can)

I have a 396 LT4, just got back in from a 85 mile cruise up the scenic Columbia River Gorge. The average running temps at 75-80 was about 177, low speed cruise with the AC on was bout 180. During in town stop and go with the AC on she will aveage about 185 and the fans are running at that speed and temperature. A 396 is still a .030" over 350 block, the stroke is different from the 383 by .125"

My 383 rarely see's 170. Even after several back to back pulls on the dyno, it only got to about 175. I tried to get it to 200 one day by sitting in a blacktopped parking lot with the AC on idleing when it was about 105 degree's out. The temp made it to 211 then would come back down to 209 or so, then back to 211, and down again. My fans come at 160 with a 160 degree thermostat. Stock radiator, WP, and fan assembly.
