I've noticed quite a few LT4's have failed in one way or another.
mostly spun bearing.... head gasket.
I'd like to take a survey of what happened, under what condition, and what the owner or mechanic thought caused it.
Only thing I've noticed for my LT4 failiers are : waterpump (2xs), Power steering pump and line (2xs), Rear (2xs). Other than that it's been great.
extremely limited tire life. lack of fuel economy at 63000 rpms.
 LOL Yours must have vtec
Mine just had a waterpump bite it, but otherwise it has been fine over 1 yr and ~ 9k mi. Rear tires have a couple mos left on them, but the fronts are fine... hmmm

I think it would be interesting.
Sorry but I don't agree. I have only heard of one engine failure and that was a spun bearing..
To keep from jinxing myself, I refuse to comment on mine!
:iagree:
I read a few (maybe 2?) problems on the internet but who knows what they did/were doing to cause the problem/failure. Mine sees constant spirited driving (its not my daily, so there is only one real use for it) and I've gone through a waterpump and rear tires, everything else is great.
if you get into autox or road racing, there are plenty of LT4 failures. and I'm not talking opti or water pump which can be considered maintence at the rate they fail. I'm talking lower end damage. bearings, or other failures requiring major work. ie: rebuild
and the LT1 Impala guys are seeing their fair share of LT1 lower end failures such as bearings, or even cam bearings after top end work. so weather your afraid your going to jink yourself, :_dupe: or not, it's a real fact.
"Plenty of LT4 failures"? Dunno 'bout that. I'm only aware of 3 failed LT4s...the guy over in the Autocross section..."Hutch" whose GS spun a bearing during street duty...and GS #001 (John Heinricy's car) courtesy of a press guy who over rev'ed the motor. Can't really compare the LT4 to the LT1. The bottom end isn't the same. The LT4 has some subtle differences to improve oiling.

was the rev limiter removed ? or did he raise it higher?
I bounced my car off the limiter more than once :jester
and it's not like you keep your foot in it once it starts bouncing. It's a wake up call to regain your senses and look at your guages.
My 96 had been a royal pain. head gasket, intake leaks, water pump, cruise control, oil pan leak. and i DON't beat on it. I reserve that right for my 80. :yesnod:

Don't know. Just relaying what he told us...that bascially the guy ran the car around the track continually at 6000rpm+ and toasted it. This was at the press introduction in '95 when the GS was unveiled.
