So my wiring harness was corroded and the car wouldn't run. Opti was 6 weeks old. Wire was fine when I put the new opti in. After cleaning the wires the car would run fine for a few days, but then the corrosion would take over and it would die again. It was still turning over, it just wouldn't start. After reading a post stating the corrosion weakens the metal of the contacts in the plug, I bought a new wiring harness hoping that would fix the problem. It didn't. I have power to the plug, but the car won't even turn over.
My question is this, if the corrosion spread to the opti, can the opti keep the car from turning over at all? Is this related, or am I possibly dealing with something completely different now? The battery is around 13v. I have power. When I turn the key, it does nothing. At least before, it was turning over, it just wouldn't start. If I have power to the connection, but the opti is corroded and doesn't "see" that power, then that would cause the problem I'm having now right? I'm so frustrated with this car right now I don't even want to mess with it. :mad :mad :mad
Gonna have to say you've got a different problem now. When my connection was all corroded up the car would crank all day, just wouldn't fire.
The main question is, are you having fun yet?
Well the reason I asked was I don't think it'll crank if you pull that plug. So if the opti "sees" the power, then it'll crank, but if the high/low connections are bad, it won't run. If it doesn't "see" power, I'm not certain it'll crank. Guess that's what I'm trying to determine.
Oh, and NO. I'm not having any fun at all. :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss
If it is not even turning over, then you got some other problem. It should be turning over as long as you have not disconnected the starter or the wires from the clutch safety switch.

Then "maybe" that's some semi good news. I'm not sure at this point. Just another problem to trouble shoot.
I know this may sound elementary, but have you checked the terminals on your battery? How are your ground connections? These Vettes are so sensitive to poor grounds. I'll look up in the manual and see if there is a connection to the ECM from the opti that will cancel a starter. My first thought is NO.
Okay, Looking at the starter circuit, there is a "starter enable" function in the CCM. That could be from the thief deterent system. I don't see anything that connects to the starter from the opti or opti-ECM. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for checking in depth for me. From what I've found out so far, the car should be turning over. The only things that keep it from turning over are the starter or the clutch safety switch. I'm going to go out and bypass the clutch switch in a bit and then check the starter. Once I can get it to crank again, I can then determine if I'm still having opti problems or not.
Well I found out why it wouldn't turn over. Thanks Vette92 for pointing me in the right direction. I checked the cluth switch and it was okay. Got under the car to look at the starter and the small wire going to it wasn't even on hand tight. :mad :mad :mad I guess it was just my dumb luck that this all happened at the same time. Tightened it up and all seems fine..............for now.
