I have the original Bose system in my 86 and it has a problem with the left speakers. When I first turn it on it is fine until the first bump I hit (which doesn't take long in a vette) and the left side goes out both front and rear. It will not come back on of it's own accord but will come back if I turn the radio off and back on.Sounds to me like it is a loose connection on the speaker wires. Before I tear it down, I just want to see if my problem could be somewhere besides the radio. Any one ever had this problem?
could be a bad speaker relay. Located behind the bread box just over the plastic pass kick panel. Kind of where the carpet meets the panel on the inboard side.
If you have access to some air take the ***** off of your left and right fade adjustment and blow it out with the air. It can get dirty and that can cause problems. :flag
To me it sounds like a problem on a printed circuit board. As it warms up and you hit bumps, an open circuit could develope. But first check for loose connections and maybe clean all the connections with the contact cleaners spray. If you need further help: http://www.doctordons.com They fixed mine.
I will go out on a limb here, but I replace the relay in mine and it took care of the problem,,, I replaced the relay with a fan relay,,, worked like a charm,,,, but I ended up upgrading the entire system with new...... the change out the relay it will take care of the problem
Well at first it would not work just buzz I replaced some relays now it plays for about a 1 or 2 min and stop playing and starts to buzz ...........1991
I can't say for sure if this has anything to do with your problem, but these bose systems for 86 and 87s have some internal connection problems in the radio. It may be related to the base and trebel sliders. My original 87 would play till I hit a bump and then static out. My wife found that you could push on the face in a spot beside the volume and treble adjustment. It would work till I hit another bump. I replaced that radio from one from ebay. This one has a problem once in a while, but it seems that if I work the treble and bass adjustments up and down a few times, it will clean the wipers and play fine. If you sent it out for service it would probably clear up. try working the sliders next time and see if ithis affects your problem
There are five relays on the passenger side do you know witch one is for the bose I played with all of them nothing. And on the drivers side I found four relays one controls the speakers and one controls the radio power .....I have found know one that can direct me to the exact relay for the bose try try again. And I have orderd a shope manual I hope it can help and I have an appt to take it to an eletric shope
Hate to buy a new set up .......

Re: bose sterio problem (dwestsr)
 I have the opposite problem, both front speakers won't come on until after a ten to fifteen minute warm up period. Then the left front has a constant buzz
No problem with the hijack.
One other symptom I just noticed . When the left side goes out , I can hear a faint alternater whine, that changes with engine speed. Does that make any sense to anyone?
you've got me on this one, but then again i'm not the biggest bose fan either. I pulled the old bose out of my '87 and replaced it with a pioneer. Had to play with the wiring a bit but, it works like a champ now. :jester
My '84 has 87k miles on it.
My pass rear speaker started giving me problems. Pops etc.
I just bought the complete speaker and amp enclosures from Mid America.
Replaced both rear speaker assy's.
Now it works great.
No problems. Soundsgood also.
