Ok I removed the F/P and was ready to install the Walbro pump I bought off another forum member. The problem is that the new pump doesn't fit into the mounting post, (the one near the fuel sock) the 84 pump is triangular shaped and the new pump is round. The mount is the same shape as the old pump with a lip all the way around which is preventing me from installing the new fuel sock.
I noticed the fuel pump P/N is for 84 only and the other P/N is for 85-96. Does any one know if this is because of the shape of the pump ?, because I thought it was just the dif. in preasures.
Has any one upgraded there 84 to the newer style pump? (If so did you have the problem I described and how did you work around it?
I am thinking of just using my dremel and making the mount the corect shape for the new pump but wanted to make sure I have the corect pump first.
One last question, the new pump came with a block that looks like it would be used instead of the fuel hose and clamps that where on my old pump. Does this block just slide on?
Pumps are different due to pressure output. The throttle body system only uses about 9 to 15 pounds of pressure. Later multi port systems use upwards or 50 pounds. Don't install the new style pump. 84s have some rubber hoses in the system that may not hold more pressure. If the block is what i'm thinking of, its a pulse deadner, use the hoses and clamps, they wont come off in flight. :chevy

just a note pumps dont control the pressure the regulators due the x-fire regulator will hold the PSI to around 13 pounds regaurdless of which pump.
I have swaped all my lines to HP hoses because I installed an LT1 and need the 40-50 PSI for the new motor.
