I happened to race a 2000 Corvette Convertible w/ automatic today. I raced 2 times and lost both due to driver skill. I could not get a good take off today at all where as usually thats where my car shines! Well when we were getting to higher speeds I was starting to gain on him but he swerved in front of me too quick for me to get beside him the first time. Curious as too wether a hypertech, open air lid, and de-screened maf should do the trick and allow me to beat him. I was about 5 ft from his rear bumper and as soon as I was at the end of 4th, beginning of 5th I started pulling and he got over quickly. Help is greatly appreciated!
Just go ahead and do an LT4 conversion, headers, exhaust, 3.73's then you wont have to think about it. Unless theyre modded then you could always run the bottle if you hate losing.
Not sure about your mods (didn't read them), but the open-lid is only limited in gain if any. I'd say a few horse power, but just because I want mine to give me a few  It IS easy though, just take it off. Drill the rivets on the side to take off the top metal shield piece. Should just fall off. Then get a dremel or something similar and cut the area around the louvres on the front piece. Make sure you don't cut too far, otherwise the filter won't be held right, but you can go pretty much to the edge of the raised area without trouble. Reinstall, and you're done.
Removing MAF screen I'd almost gurantee won't give you "poopie." It's been argued over and over again on this forum, but even those in favor wouldn't claim something as much as to make up a good distance in a 1/4. Plus why risk having something fly in at some point and damage the MAF?
Hypertech is good if you want to stay pretty much stock. It's limited in use though and for the money so much can be done. Almost 1/2 if not more of the mods are for auto cars anyway. The best thing it does is let you turn on your fans sooner with a 160-180 stat.
I say take your $350 and go get 4.10s installed
Please no more "street racing" stories. If you were both stock, you should be able to keep up. Every stock C5 I raced at the track I beat. Until the '01's came out then I started losing, but not by much.
If you remove screen on MAF, also change out aluminium body with a fiberglass one, helps keep the heat out. Sounds like you are one mod away, if that mod is 3.73's.
I am with Mr. MOJO.
You should be able to keep up, right at his bumper.......
As for there extra HP, I dont know where it goes or has gone but,, I know with my 90 I can stay right there with him...
I dont know if GM over exaturated it or what
