Default Low temp fan switch questions

I am considering putting in a 180 degree thermostat and a low temp fan switch. I have an 89 convertible without the auxiliary fan.

Do I need the harness? Since I don't have the aux fan, I don't think I do, but wanted to make sure.

Where does it go? I assume on the block somewhere, but don't see where.

Is it as simple as changing the thermostant & switch? Does it 'trick' the prom somehow to turn the fan on at a lower temp?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Do you have a fan in front of your radiator? This is the one that is controlled by the switch. The rear fan is totally controlled by the PROM. A quick reprogram will fix that for you. The switch goes into the side of the head, between a couple of the header tubes. It is a single (green wire) connection.

That temp switch is for aux fan, which you said you don't have. But you can still wire into main fan relay with a single wire.
The switch goes into drivers side of block between 1 and 3 cyl.

:iagree: And yes, since you don't have dual fans you don't need the harness.

You realy don't need a wiring harness to wire an aux fan switch to control the main fan.

You can buy the connector for the new switch (if one doesn't come with the switch), get a length of grn wire and route the wire over the the large harness running along the left inner fender well. Then bring that new grn wire out near the main fan relay (on the rear of the left inner fender well) and splice it into the grn/wht wire going to that relay. You can bet splincing connectors at Radio Shack to do this job.
