Default Jack Stand positions

I have studied the service manual and its picture of where to lift the car. However, I find it very confusing and different that the markings on the car.

Might anyone be able to advise what they have done/figured out.

I am also confused if the jack stands should be resting under the fiberglass body were the 'lift here' is embossed into the fiberglass lip. It seems that the picture of the lift point are too far away from the the 'lift here' body tab to be used, so I am assuming that the 'lift here' is only for the car jack not for lifting the car, true?

I was considering making four 'lift pads' of wood, out of a 2 x 6 cut to about 6" and then putting the jack stand below it, has anyone tried/done this?

First of all, what kind of work are you doing on the Vette? Most work can be done with drive on ramps (for low cars) and this is safer. In fact if you can afford it and plan to do a lot of work on your cars, I'd go with a Kwik-Lift. I did and I can't imagine working under the Vette with jack stands. http://www.kwiklift.com

You can jack the car up at the "Jack Points" using a floor jack. The metal frame begins to turn inboard just in front of the front and to the rear of the back jack points. Place the jack stands on the frame in thoe locations.

:iagree: - got the ramps thru corvette central (metal and made for low profile & wide tires), as for the jack stands had some 1/2 steel plate welded to the head , less pressure on the jack points

Strick, how do you like the kwik lift? I have been thinking about getting one, can you leave it flat and park on it in the garage?

Strick, good question. The immediate need was to remove the tires and replace them with the new ones we're getting from Mel. Next will be to remove/replace the shocks (Front and back). Other things on the horizon could be the clutch, u-joints (although with just jack stands it might be to much -- but the KwikLift idea could make these possible at home -- I've already started telling 'santa' that I've been a really good boy this year).
