I have been looking at getting the Diacom package for my 93 Vette. Has anyone used this? Is it DOS only? I have Windows XP Pro on my Laptop and want to make sure it will work. Is there any advantage of getting the Diacom Plus package? What are the differences between the two packages other than price? Thanks in advance.
I'm going to be watching this one. I've also have a laptop running XP Pro and would like to start scanning using it (I'll also need a serial to USB adapter, but that is another story).
I just emailed Rinda (Diacom makers) to find out about the Windows XP Pro issue and what the differences are. Will let everyone know when I get an answer.

Re: Diacom questions (Whitvette)
Scanease guys. Way better than Diacom......WAY BETTER. I've got Diacom now sitting in a closet.
Cost is about the same as well. And if you have other GM vehicles in youse you can scan those as well. http://www.ob2.com or talk to Mike Meek on the forum his handle is Mike_88Z51
I have the basic diacom that i run in dos on an old 486 laptop. It works out ok, but i wish i had the "plus" version so i could capture information while driving. Hmmmm, anyone with the plus willing to fill me in on the upgrade?

It just isn't going to work. In DOS applications have direct access to the resources in charge of the serial/parallel ports. In XP the Kernal controls access to everything, so Diacom will not be able to get a direct link to the port it needs.
Correct site for Ease software package is http://www.obd2.com. :D
I just checked it out. Very nice looking package. Seems to have everything that the Diacom has and more. It also is a Windows program and runs on XP! This might be exactly what I want. Jeffvette & Scorp, what advantages did you see with this over the Diacom software (other than it is a Windows based product)?
For 1 i wanted something in windows so that I could scan/tune/burn chips all from within windows. Also EASE allows you to record until your harddrive is full while Diacom only lets you do so many frames of data before it stops recording.
Right now I have something like 255 hours worth of scanning time free on my harddrive that I could use if I was that insane. :)
Ease also lets you keep notes on every recording, what vehicle it was recorded from, keywords, tons of parameters you can setup yourself. You can easily export/import your scans to other EASE users to review your data.
Diacom also only shows you up to 3 variables at one time while Ease can display a rediculous amount of graphs at once.
Here is a screenshot I took while reviewing some data the other day.... click it for full size.
I am running it on a P2-500MHz laptop with 128MB ram on Windows XP Pro and its smooth.

Easier to navigate, having it in color instead of monochrome/balck and white is better. You can custom set up profiles, it remembers cars (stores info)
One thing to consider is if you're in a club, spend the 500.00 to get unlimited vins as opposed to 30 and spread the cost out among several people.
You can "log in" to EASE. When you do it remembers predefined parameter sets for each user. For example when I log in I have a parameter set called "Drag Race" and when I choose it EASE displays only the parameters I want to monitor during a drag race (even though it records the data for ALL parameters no matter what).
I also have ones for idle and part throttle cruising.
Diacom is a DOS program and works on slow processors only. You want the Diacom plus because you can record data and play it back. I went through the want ads and found an old 12mhz Toshiba lap top I bought for $20. I use as a dedicated Diacom computer.

Re: Diacom questions (Whitvette)
I must admit that I'm pleased to see that others using Ease OBD1 scan tools feel as positive as I do.
I rep for Ease now, but I originally bought my Ease OBD1 scan tool as a user for my 88 Coupe. I researched all of the options available and Ease clearly beat Diacom and everything else I could find for OBD1 vehicles. Ease is supported on Win95, 98, NT4.0, Win2000, and WinXP. They have a really good Tech Support whereas I have not heard anything good about dealing with Rhinda (Diacom) after the sale. As mentioned, Ease will record every parameter available in your ECM/PCM for hours if you have the disk space. I give a 10% rebate to all CF members who order through me. Ease now also offers an add-in ABS/ASR module which allows you to scan the later OBD1 vehicles with the seperate ABS/ASR controller.
Feel free to contact me directly for more info and additional screen captures from use on my 88 OBD1 Yellow Coupe.

P.S. Steel Blue 91, Ease will work on laptops with only USB ports too. You do need to get a USB->serial converter cable, but Ease sells those as well. Ease Tech Support tells me that the cable sold by Radio Shack works just as well as theirs and is cheaper. (Ease is pretty good about things like this.)

Re: Diacom questions (Ramrod92)
Ramrod92,
I must admit I don't know for sure. I'll find out and let you know. I do know that the CCM controls Body & Chassis which the Personal version does not read in full. The Pro version has a Body & Chassis module that does read the CCM completely, but it is pretty expensive for the Pro version.
