Rear end grinding noise
I hear a short "grinding" type noise coming from the rear wheel/area (1992 C4) at 2-3 mph when first starting out in the morning. Is this positrac needing lube? Anyone else have this problem?

I think what you are hearing is your ABS unit self testing. It is in the compartment directly behind the driver. You should also see the ABS light come on while the unit "moans".
I hear a whirring noise in the rear of my 86 coupe first time it is driven for the day. It lasts for a second or two. I've been wondering what that was. It is not a wheel bearing noise so it is probably the ABS self test. If yours is a grinding noise and not a whirring noise , it is probably wheel bearing. Good Luck

Re: Rear end grinding noise (chief253)
 ABS test comes on when you approach 4 mph, forward or reverse. You should hear a moan/groan and feel a brake peddle reaction. Hot or cold shouldn't make a difference.
If you are concerned about rear end and haven't changed the fluid or added the GM posi additive in a while, I would!@
