This is not for a Corvette but I thought you guys could help me, a find of mine had a Pontiac with LT1 and on his way to work today it skiped and poped a few times and then it just quit...we think is is the optispark, what do you guys think?
Who has the best price on Optispark and how much does one cost?
I dont know much about Optispark but I did not think they had a ignition module. Jay
They don't. But, what Bogus was saying is that the coil or the Ignition Control module may have gone bad. I was driving down the interstate and my car just quit. No studder, pop, fart .....nuttin'.....It was the ignition control module. If you replace the ICM, then I would recommend buying from one of the online GM dealerships for a good price. I tried several "off" brands and they just wouldn't run on my car. It was wierd. Installed an AC Delco unit and all was fine. Go figure.....
The coil and module assy is located on the front of the passenger head behind the power steering resevoir, (on a corvette anyway).
It is rather rare for an Opti to just quit all of a sudden. They usually broadcast thier intentions for a time before finally dieing on you. :seeya
Call Sam Taylor chevrolet/Buick in Fort Walton beach Florida and ask for Jason Cromer,he's the parts guy there, tell him you are a corvette forum or fbody member and you should get the opti at cost or a little over. I just purchased opti/waterpump/plug wires from them for 486 and they were great to deal with and prompt with the shipment. Put it on my 92 convert and life is good again. good luck. As everyone here has said though went the opti fails it dies a slow death usually.

hm. :skep: is there much difference between "Ignition Module" and "Ignition Control Module"?
just check'n.... :D
and what it is, simply put, is a solid state relay... so the ECU does not have to fire the coil from an internal circuit... cuts down on ECU failures...
It looks like it is the Optispark, because the rotor came a part inside the optispark and it mest it up.
Does anybody know where we can get one at a good price?
Dal at Van Devere Pontiac/Buick has complete OE Opti's for $198.00. Dal supports the car "enthusiast' community with some great prices. Dal's number is 877-448-5451.
