can anyone help me with this problem? I have replaced my coil twice now and it has died again after a couple months of use. what could be causing this?
I had this problem before using a hypertech coil (the big gray one) and a MSD box.
I had 2 problems...
1) The coil was designed for switched 12v style and not capacitor discharge. So... replacing it with an MSD HEI coil designed for capacitor discharge fixed that.
2) The stock HEI bushing in the dist. cap is high resistance. It built up extra heat and fried the coil. Replaced that with an MSD low resistance bushing and all is good again.
Check all your plug wires with an ohmeter, they should measure about 5000 ohms per foot. Any wires that are open circuit can cause the coil to spark internally and destroy itself by making an internal carbon path.
