but wat about the boost controll, turbo timing and other turbo related computer controll poopie.
Boost control can be done mechanically with a $50 setup from turbonetics. Turbo timers are not needed but are a convienence. Both of these are pretty much after thoughts to the turbo system and can be added on at any time.

I'd concentrate on the basics first, then you can get flashy with everything else.

i am playing on building a 406 (or 401) with my L98 350block or if i can find a LT1.
Did I read this correctly ? your plan is to build a 406 or 401 ci out of a 350 block?

Mn_vette, i ask the say question 2 a mate of mine who owns a j-spec store in Japan, he told me that the turbo timers and boost controlls will work with any type of car, the only different is where you mount them.

I think a turbo timer is a must so the turbo can cool down, after the car is turn off. I can get a good deal on both so i think, i will buy them soon.

And yes i plan 2 stroke the 350 block 2 406 (have it built 2 hold the turbo setup)

:nono: YOu cant build a 400+CID out of a 350 block, you need a siamesed Small Block, or better known as a 400 block. So if you want a 406 you should start searching for a good used block to rebuild upon. :yesnod:

are you sure? so the highest displacment i can go is 396 (i think it is) or 383

When you are talking about forced induction. It's all about how much air you can move through the engine. a 420 with 10psi or a 383 with 15psi which will have more horsepower??? Look at a compressor map, at a given efficiency turbos flow more cfm if you are running a higher boost level. It's all about making the parts work togther. If you can make a high reving 355ci you might be better off. Less low end torque, but more high end horsepower. It's all about a goal and making things work togther.

Looks like it is back 2 the drawing board, got 2 figure out which engine displacement will be best for turbo setup, i no my end goal is 2 run 2 Turbo which out 600hp each. I would like good low end torque, but equally good high end hp (if i loss some highend hp it will be ok)

If you're looking for good low end torque you might want to go with a big cube motor with a smaller a/r on the turbone housings of the turbos. The engine will give you a big jump off the line and then the turbos should spool up quick adn give you loads of midrange torque.

Even if you stick with a 396 and build a cam for torque, you should have plenty of low end umph. And then you'll have the turbos to make the upper end.

You can make 1200 hp out of 4 cylinders now days. It all depends on your budget, and how reliable you want to make it.

the car will only be a weekend drive, but i want it 2 be reliable and last a life time (if that is possable with any car), so i will spend the extrat $$$ 2 make the car reliable.I will have my daily drive car soon (going 2 pick it up this weekend i think) so the vette turbo project can take a year or 2 and it wouldnt matter and as i said above money isnt the problem cuz as time goes on money goes up hehehe :D

If money isn't an issue, why not buy a spare block, build the engine, start making the headers. And still drive the vette around. Once you have everything good to go, do an engine swap with the turbos, do some final tweeking and you'll be good to go.

I've spent the last 6 months driving around my "other car" and it sucked. Minimum down time is key to any project :yesnod:

After i buy my second car this weekend i will be down 2 something like $10,000 which means anything i can do 2 save money is going 2 happen. I have the plan that i will built the block and then have that reinstall into the car and drive it round untill i get enough money 2 buy all the items for the turbo setup

So you are making this a two step process

1.) build engine for future needs
2.) add turbo kit tor abnoxiously high horsepower

If that's the order you want to do it in then I'd concentrate on the rebuild first. As long as you make it low compression then you can add any type of forced induction you want later. Keeping your options open. Not to mention the extra cubes are really fun :D

Hey again,

I was thinking about something. the turbo vette will most likly become a show car therefore i will be using stainless_steal for all piping but also do u think it would be possable 2 move the 2 turbos upwards, so they stick out of the hood about 1 to 5cm . I know it doesnt do anything for power kind of ricer mod, i think it would look nice do u think it is possable? (would it in anyway result is lost of power ?)

Thanks

it can be done, actually the piping might be easier because you can just make it directly above the header if you do it right. And still keep the a/c then. Check out http://www.fasttrackperformance.com and see the TT buick. I don't like the look, but some people do.

You might want to check out this site also. They make custom kits for a lot of different cars. They say that a kit for your car will be available in Jan. Just something to look at. http://www. turbochargedpower.com

There's been rumors of turbo kits for a long time. Until I actually see one then I'll believe it. A bunch of companies have tried, but no one has actually done it.

HP Performance Turbo is starting on my '85 on November 10th. Mine will be a custom system from which they build the kit. The kits will be available in January about the same time my car is done. In all my discussion with them they have been professional and knowledgable. Can't wait for mine to be done. If anyone is interested I will let you know the results.

I've talked to them as well, sound very knowledgeable in turbo stuff. I'd be very interested to see what they do. Very intrested if they are doing an LT1 as well.
