Default ZZ4 Camshaft Question

Hey guys, why does Scoggins Dickey say "not reccomemded for computer controlled engines" about the ZZ4 camshaft.

It's 112 degree LSA... isn't that the same as the stock TPI cams??
What's the deal?

Don't know why they would say that. Not sure of the LSA on the stock cam.

I've got one and its a nice cam for the L98. Runs great with the stock programming but could probably get more out of it by having the chip done. The ZZ4 grind is almost identical to the TPIS ZZ9 and thats certianly used in "computer controlled cars".

That's what I was told too. They didn't get the ZZ4 approved for smog engines. Mine seems to work fine in my engine.

Thansk guys,

I think I'll try one of them on the L98.
Already got the 1.6ers in a box so that'll be a good time to put them on also.
Got a new set of valve springs, too.
May replace the old roller lifters with some fresh ones while I'm there.

Sure would like to sneak up on 285 -300 at the flywheel but I'm afraid a head upgrade is going to be necessary to get to 300.
It's just speculation but my guess is I've got about 260-265 at the flywheel, now.

Already done all the free mods, AFPR ,ported plenum, 10 degrees base timing, ASM runners and custom chip my Amoebus.

Not necessarily. The ZZ4 puts out 355hp with the same heads. You need a better base to go with those ASM runners.
