In my constant search to break things it happened again today.
I made 9 passes at a track rental today and most were kinda crummy in the 13.2-13.3 range @ 106ish mph. I had been adding more fuel on the top end to get rich of a lean condition. Then I tried something I hadn't before.... more timing.
I added 3* of timing and boom... 12.89 @ 108.86 and 12.95 @ 108.37 back to back within 10 mins of each other with oil and coolant temps in the 220* range. That made me happy.
So.... next run I added another 2* of timing to see if things would continue in the quicker/faster trend. Line up, launch...... hey.... the tach is bouncing off the rev limiter.... but the car ain't moving! Yep.... thats clutch I smell. :cry
Goodbye Centerforce Dual Friction! I guess the ET Streets were too much for it today. I just babied the f'ing thing home 160 miles and it would slip under the most gentle throttle inputs. Some hills were hard and it would only grab in 1st gear. Loooooooooooooovely!!!
Pisses me off since my times were just starting to get better and the biggest event (for me) is next Saturday. :(
Damn that clutch hasnt been in there that long has it?
13k miles, most of which were my commute before I got the 2nd car. The track was like a glue pit today. Hook hook hook. I had the ET Streets at 30psi and they STILL would not spin. I was TRYING to make them spin, it was hooking too hard.

Sorry to hear about the clutch. I'd think a Centerforce would hold up longer; of course I don't know how many runs you put on it. 12s are cool though, hope you can get it together soon. Good luck.

me too! Sorry to hear bout this. Now that the clutch disc has cooled down, still slip?
Don't bother with SPEC III even. It will hold, but will wear very fast/won't last a year, rough daily driver manners.

"6129 ** competion metallic disc, will accelerate flywheel wear-use only billet steel or aluminum. Chatter will occur. " sounds tuff for daily driving.

Re: Found the weak link tonight. Blah!! (1990CORVETTE)
Scorp,
Look at the bright side, At least it was not the 1/2 shafts twisting, or some other HIGH $$$$ Part. I actually have my car set-up so the Clutch disc is the weakest link.
Also what compression are you running? and what is your total timing?
I found out last Sunday that I needed less timing in my vette for better times..
I ran a 12.55@111 with only 30 advance and I think if I drop the timing a bit more the car will get a little more power. Granted you and I have different set-ups and I think I am running around 10.5:1 or 10.75:1 compression.
Other then that I am sorry to hear the clutch went bad.
Re: Found the weak link tonight. Blah!! (scorp508)
Thats too bad :smash:
I bet all those auto pilots are feeling a little more comfortable with their slush boxes when they read this :smash:
Makes me want to have one of each,an auto to thrash at the track and a stick for cruizin the windys.
When I first saw you yesterday while you we're typing away at the laptop, I did smell a little clutch scent. Could be 'cause you slipped it on the run before I got there.
Luckily you made it home ok. I know whatthat's like being far from home with a wounded car. My tranny almost let go on the first toll plaza from E-Town last year. I barely made it home.
Sorry to see things didn't pan out for you. It's not for a lack of effort I'm sure.

It wasn't the best day for the slush box guys either. After just about everybody was gone and on my last run of the day, the car didn't shift into third. I ended up going through the traps at 97 MPH @ 6200 or so RPM.
