I just noticed a whinning noise coming from my trans. It sounds like a Pete Jackson gear drive  ...definitely not that loud though, barely noticable. The noise only appears when the trans is shifted into drive or reverse, no noise when in park or neutral. The trans fluid level looks fine, I had it changed less than 3,000 miles ago. Any suggestions???
TIA!

I am going to make a guess at this.. I am betting it is comming from the pump at the front of the trans.. because as far as I know it is only loaded down when its in gear.. if the noise only happend in Drive or Reverse I wouldn't be so quick to say that it was the pump.. but that is my guess...

Rick, I just checked the fluid level again, it is about 1" - 1 1/2" higher than it is supposed to be on the dip stick. The shop manual also confirms your suspicions based on the symptoms i mentioned.
Oh well, at least it gives me an excuse to replace the torque converter when I take the pump out.

Re: Whinning noise coming from trans??? (Hardcorvette)
It could be the torque converter itself. If the pump is starting to go, it will go quickly. Abad bearing in a torque converter can go thousands of miles. People think I have either a supercharger or a geardrive, but it's just a bad torque converter. It's been going for almost 7000 miles like that. I'm on borrowed time though. It's gotta come out quick.
