Took to shope to get a tune up the car was running ruffff so I checked the wires looking at the service man the wires were wrong I took the off put them on according to the manual now the car won't run...the book says 2&3 go around the dis 2 on the drivers side and 3 on the passenger side.I had 1&3 on the drivers side etc..etc..etc long story short fireing order says 1,2,7,5 drivers side and 6,3,4,8 on pass side is this correct HELP!!! thanks...............
This of course is assuming a previous owner had not removed the distributor for anything and put it back 1 tooth off so they changed the wire order to fix it.
Where was #1 when you got it back from the shop?????
Scorp has given you the corect firing order for any SBC and a nice diagram to work with. If you can remember where #1 was before you removed it start with #1 in that location then just follow the firing order.
If you cant remember where #1 was then you will have to bring the motor to TDC compresion. Remember that the timing mark shows TDC twice and only one is the compresion stroke. Once you have TDC compresion pull the cap and look at where the rotor is pointing and that should be #1
if you are still having trouble with this, you must first set your no. one cylendar to tdc compression stroke. Then you can remove your distributor cap and see where the rotor is, the direction that it is pointing is the place that you start the no. 1 wire and from there continue in a clockwize rotation 18436572. if you still cant get it or need clarification, soot me an e mail

Re: Fireing order L98 dis cap (perryroger86vette)
this is what i was getting at, by explaining that you have to put No. 1 at tdc and see where the rotor is.
:iagree:
Remove the distributor cap and serp belt and turn the engine over by hand (make sure it's in neutral) and line up the timing mark on the harmonic balancer. You have a 50% chance of finding TDC on #1's compression stroke. If the timing mark is lined up and the rotor points in general towards the front drivers side of the car, it's safe to assume you've found TDC... then you can hook up the plug wires starting with the number 1 plug, which goes on the terminal that the rotor points to.
