Default HELLO

My name is Mark Im a new memeber here this being my first vette and all
1987 tuned port..I have owned a few lt-1 firebirds so im pretty well informed on the lt-1 i also have a couple 327's one is a 375 hp fueli motor the other is 496 hp had that one in a 77 monza spider for awhile. I usually manage auto shops but since moving to vegas i have learned that sometimes crooks dont use a gun. I now do repairs out of my house. I am a GM certified service manager but im kinda stuck here with this vette..all the injectors have been replaced within 5 days the car started smoking a little, 2 days later it was smoking a lot all i could smell was unburnt fuel. I checked the iac..tps..and o2 sensors all are within range. The fuel is dumping so badly i used 4 gallons of fuel in 6.8 miles..I could use any help you can offer me...and thanks for having me in the forum...Mark

Did you replace them with factory rating injectors? I think your 87 had 22# injectors. What did you put in? Why did you replace the injectors?

By the way, with the car dumping that much fuel,

you might want to check the return tube for any

obstruction. This may be adding to the misery here...

and welcome!

Welcome to the addiction! As Unriced suggested, check FPR and stuck open injectors.
Chances are someone else on CF has had a similar prob. and will be able to give more concrete suggestions.
Good luck.

A scan tool on the ALDL would be a big help here.

Indeec make sure you have vacuum to the FPR and check fuel pressure. If it drops like a rock after you cycle the ignition key on/off you need to diagnose the leakdown.

Also, put a finger atop each injector plug to see if all are pulsing the same and pull the harness to the cold start injector in the left side lower runner as it may be leaking badly.

Pull all the spark plugs to see if all show escess fuel or only one or two.

Check for an air leak in the exhaust manifold before the O2 sensor or at it's location.

I vote for checking the fuel pressure regulator. That rubber diaphram does not last forever. And since it happened slowly it could be rupturing. This will pump raw fuel into the plenum. Check it before you wash the rings out. Especially #6 and 8. Good luck.
Hey, I've only been around here for a couple of months and have not been steered wrong, good bunch of people. Welcome to the crowd. :chevy
