Default Cam Set up

Is this a good cam set up for my 90 L-98. If so what kind of performance could I expect to see from it?

All TPiS hydraulic roller cams have a cast iron distributor gear. This allows you to use the stock distributor gear.

ZZ-9 HydraulicRoller:

Intake Exhaust Advertised duration 282 287
Duration at .050 212 226
Gross lift .483 .520
Lobe separation 112

ZZ-409 Hyd Roller:

Adv. duration 287/287, duration @.050 226/226, Lift .520/.520. 112 LSA.

ZZ-9X Hyd Roller:

duration @.050 225/240, Lift .525/.558 on a 112 LSA. ZZ-X Hyd Roller:

Adv duration 290/290, duration @.050 239/239, Lift .558/.558, on a 112LSA.

I have the ZZ9, but also have:

Miniram, Headers, ,CNC Heads, 10.5:1 compression.

I have run the best of 12.55@111.69 and have not yet been to the dyno.

Combination takes a good roll as to how well the cam will work. The ZZ9 is good for a longer runner set-up as well at the Miniram, It may be a bit on the smaller side for the miniram but it is working well for me. I also need to do some more PROM tuning on mine and I think it will be a bit faster.

EDIT= the ZZ409 may work, but the ZZ9X and ZZX will be too big for the long runners

Check out the results of L98 mods article on my site (see sig. below) to see how that cam performs and what support mods were used.

I would go ZZ9 for the L98s intake.

Bigger for any intake change.

Iguess what you are all saying is that I am going to need a bigger intake to get optimum performance?

Well sure, for optimum results you need to match flow throught the system.

You can go the cheap route initially on the intake and simply siamese the intake base a few inches into the base runners (details on my site). This will provide much better breathing at higher RPM with only minimal loss of low end torque. After doing heads & cam I doubt that you will notice any low end losses. Later, when you feel the need for more, you can bolt on one of the aftermarket intake systems.
