Default Rear End Noise

Bought my '91 convertible in April and love it. It is a 6-speed with a SLP T-Ram air intake and headers. One problem I have is an occassional grinding sound from the rear as I round corners - especially under power. What is causing this? The car has 57K miles.

What kind of noise is it exactly, its just a grinding? no squeaks/creaking noises? Does it shift harder into gear? Are you sure its coming from the rear, and can you pinpoint either side or does it sound like the differential (in the middle)

Wheel bearings can pitch a royal fit when you turn, that would be my first guess. Jack up the rear and grab each wheel at 12-6, try to wiggle it in/out. If it moves, replace the bearing.

speaking of bearings (not to hyjack this thread)...i am almost 100% sure that my rear bearings are going....how bad is it to ride on worn bearings...and how hard is it to replace them...my rear right squeaks unless i am over 15mph

Don't think it is THAT bad. To fall off it would have to break the shaft with the splines that has the u-joint bolted to the back of it. The bearings are held in place by the 26mm nut on the end of that shaft. The bearing cannot separate on it's own. Mine had actually come apart, but the nut kept it all together. The wheel did have a lot of play in it.

Let him keep drivin on it and see what happens.

A friend of mine was driving on the hwy on a bad bearing and didnt know it, lost a rear wheel at 70mph and F'd the whole rear end of the car up. Luckily it was at night and he didnt hit anyone else.
