Well this morning I completed my long tube installation. I got a set of Exotic Muscle long tubes for my LT4. Needless to say I can personally say that these headers are of very high quality. Fit and finish was superb, even better than a set of TPIS headers I seen on a friends 94 LT1.
Once the old stuff was out they just slipped in place, piece of cake! Making the connections between my B&B 3" system was easy as well, all I had to do was to add an extension on both sides and swage the ends to mate with the pipes. The drivers side needed to be cocked a bit so I shortened the pipe a bit more so that it could be "tweaked" a bit.
Once all of it was in place and aligned I tack welded the connections, removed the pipes to complete the welds, reinstall the B&B system and I was done. Even the AIR tubes fit like a factory fit! And the flanges were perfectly flat, so that there was no need to worry about leaks from a warped flange. Total install time about 6 hours including three trips to the muffler shop to swage pipes, one time more because the swage was a bit too tight, I had to open it up a bit more....:( The butt-O-meter says it runs better, seems to rev faster.....but that could be a figment of my imagination after spending over $700 for headers! But I know its got to be breathing easier and it sounds pretty bad (in a good way) so far without the CATs in place. Its a bit too loud, and the cats are coming otherwise they would have been installed today.
I installed my Tpis headers two weeks ago and was amazed how easy it was. I had to put driver side in from top and passenger side in from bottom. I did mine on jack stands on floor of my garage but sounds like you have the pleasure of using a lift. Congrats.
Yes it is because the O2s are there and the CATs will be there. As far as I know Washington and Oregon state are not the sticklers for compliance such as the Republic of California. As long as your Emission Controls are in and for the most part they don't even look any more if you pass the sniff test. And on OBD2 cars they just plug in their scan tool, if there isn't any stored codes they pass you. My car will not pass without the CATs, once in place there won't be a problem.
TJ, do you drive that thing? That is the cleanest car I've seen in the NW. Nice job. Hope to see ya on the road!
Yes, I do drive it. In fact I was out cruising around this morning.
I am sure you will see me around. All you have to do is to drop by our shop one of these days! Hopefully after the first of the year I will have a new chassis dyno. We are going to SEMA to check one out in a couple weeks, with the hopes of making a deal :seeya
Man Thomas that is an incredibly clean install. And the bottom of your car is pretty damn clean too. Maybe I can catch you at Sema in a few weeks.
