Vortec vs Procharger

Just curious to see how many Prochargers and Vortech blower cars are out there.

Not on engine just yet but next month, December at the latest, 10 psi Vortech on 383 that is currently decorating my garage floor.

I messed up and accidently hit procharger instead of vortech so the numbers are off.

I've had a Vortech, and have had several ProChargers. Nothing but positive on the ATI units. Though never had any problem with the Vortech either.

P-600B, D1, D1R, D2R all good head units.

What's the difference between the Procharger and the Vortech? Why is Ati so much more popular?

Procharger utilizes an intercooler in their kits so you can use higher boost pressures without detonation. More boost, more hp. Procharger has a higher flowing unit than Vortech. Others who know more about this unit can chime in tell you probably more than I can beyond that.

Intercooler goes up front in front of radiator. Vortech, has better instructions for their kits and better customer support. This is what I have gotten from reading others posts.

I have a Procharger on a LT1, with the intercooler located over the radiator. If anybody out there hasn't seen this set up, and wants to see what it looks like, email me at csulli@prodigy.net, and I'll be glad to send you some pictures.

On an LT1 i thought a lot of people complained that the ATI unit had a lot of belt slippage but on this poll it is getting more votes

What's teh deal?

The guys with the slippage seems to be ones with stroked motors and higher boost levels. Stock engines and lower boost pressures seem to be ok.

I could be wrong, but I believe actually there is belt slip issues with both ATI and Vortech kits. However, it's easier to get an 8 rib conversion (parts available) for a Vortech kit.

Don't forget, the ATI kit comes with an intercooler also.
