My antenna doesn't always go all the way down. After trying to pull it up all of the way, it seems as though there isn't any grease that will allow it to move.

Any recommendations on what to do?
Get a rag, some WD-40 and a helper.
Have them turn on the radio. Squirt the WD-40 at the antenna catching it behind in the rag. Stroke your mast with the rag, then shut the radio off.
Repeat this a few times until you get all the crap off your mast.
The only "lubricant" recommended by all service manuals is Mineral Spirits. I hit my antenna twice a year and have never had any problems. Just soak a rag in it, extend the antenna, rub the rag on it, find a clean section, do it again.
If the antenna isn't retracting all of the way, it's likely the plastic strip has, well, stripped. There are rebuild kits available for this fix and it's relatively cheap, just a pain to get the antenna out and back in. Good luck!

:iagree: If you want to use any lubricant at all after you clean it with mineral spirits, use dry graphite. You don't want to use any oil based lubricant (such as WD-40, Marvel Mystery Oil, etc.). The reason is that you will collect all the dirt onto the antenna that you are cleaning off. Dry graphite that you use on your door locks works great. Won't clog up anything, doesn't attract dirt, etc.

So does this mean that if it goes up OK, but not down, that it needs to be rebuilt rather than just cleaned?
If it isn't going all of the way down, either the regulator has a stripped tooth or two or the shaft has a kink somewhere. Cleaning may work to some extent, but I'm afraid something is amis internally.
More than likely you've probably got a broken section of ribbon jammed inside your gears. To fix, you'll have to either replace the entire motor or remove the motor, open it up, take the broken ribbon out, then thread a new replacement mast down the hole.
That's how I fixed the antenna on my 92 two years ago!

Re: Antenna oil? (ShawnZR-1)
the shaft has a kink somewhere.
:iagree: My antenna had a barely noticeable bend in it when I bought the car. But it was enough to keep the antenna fromn fully extending. Something you should check out.
Okay, I'll start it. There was this guy who came into the bar and says, "I need my antenna stroked and lubbed. Can anyone help me?" :lolg:

And the bartender....a hot blonde threw him a rag and tube of KY and said clean your mast with this rag and then stroke it with the KY til all of the stuff comes off.....and.....
