ok i have been to the track three times already. from 100 degree days to 44 degree nights. i have read in this forum that some guys are nailing 2.00 or better 60' times on there stock eagle GS-C's run flats. mine are between 2.25 and 2.54. i still have the runflats on the car. i have tried babying it, launching aggressivly, riding the clutch. and still can't get these times. any one got any advice or techniques they would be willing to share? i don't want to put D.O.T slicks on the car yet as i can't afford them right now. but would be extremly happy to nail a 2.00 60' for now. my 1/4 times and mph are really suffering as a result of this. my best is a 13.65@107mph with a 60' time of 2.25. if i can get the times down to 2.0 or better i should be in the 13.0-13.3 range@about 108+. and with slicks in the 12.8-12.9 range. but i need to know what if anything i'm doung wrong. i would love to blame it on the track being slick but i don't know. :banghead:
Are any other comparable cars getting the same times as you? What type of track is it, concrete pad or asphalt? Go to a different track and see if you get a different time. Have you played with tire PSI yet? I pulled a 1.97 60' with GS-C as well....but they are 315/35s I need to add. I'm sure that helped the case....and I drive an A4 as well.
How old are the tires? The older they get the harder they get. Especially when used for racing that heat cycles them a lot.
OK, here's a little secret about E-Town...go there on a Wed. evening and get into lane #1. First they pull the quick-8s, then bikes and then T/T, starting with lane #1.
Arrive with about 1/4-1/3 tank of fuel, vary tire pressure around 30psi to get best hookup, do a little dry burn out, and line up in the rubber laid down by the slick tire guys. On such occasions I can just hammer it on launch and hookup great; during the CC event with all the street tire cars I have to roll into the throttle to avoid wheel spin.
You should be able to hit some very nice short times by the 2nd round as the track is always very sticky. You will likely need to find the sweet spot in clutch slippage and launch RPMs to keep from bogging.
And these days ari temp is getting low so ET will be very good too.
