Default Boost and Octane

I was reading on some supra stuff.....checking out the competition, and I noticed on just about all of their high horsepower stuff it says 15psi on 93 octane and 29(or whatever)psi on race gas.

I'm wondering if there is a typical limit of psi that we can run before we can't run pump gas anymore. I guess our engines aren't very standard compared to the supra engines, but there should be a rough number. I'd expect it be inversly proportional to the compression ratio. Has anybody run into this or can we just "tune" our way out of it by adding an intercooler and/or retarding timing. I'd really hate to have to run race gas or octane booster all the time.

Default Re: Boost and Octane (mn_vette)

Brian here are some of the things that will determine when pump gas will not be good enough.
1-Compression
2-camshaft
3-size of ports in the head
4-size of quench area
5-design of piston
6-Boost
7-Total Timing
8- Temperature of intake air [ ie ] Intercooler Efficiecncy
9-Water/Alky Injection
10- A/F Ratio Lean engines detonate sooner than rich ones do.
