I took a ride yesterday in my '92 roadster and in the middle of a full throttle run, it backfired just after shifting into 2nd. I bought this car new and I've never heard it do that before! What are some of the reasons for a backfire?
I called a Chevy dealership here and the fix for the problem listed in the Service Bulletin is to replace the MEMCAL (EPROM). I was going to put in a power chip anyway so this is not real bad news.
If youre lucky it will fix it I have replaced every thing and still have a similar problem I am replacing valve springs & 1.6 RR this weekend . Mine backfires between the 1st and 2nd shift . Good luck

I checked the Service Bulletins for '93 and the bacfire problem wasn't listed. So it seems that according to GM, the chip replacement was the fix. But I'm hearing on this board that it's "maybe not"?
