I bought a set of plugs for my car. 89 L98. They are rapid fire #5.
I just pulled the first one out and found the new ones are longer in the threaded part, meaning they will sit further into the head. I haven't changed the plugs before as I have had the car a year.
Please tell me I have the right plugs. I don't want to put them in and the piston hits them. If the ones in there are the wrong ones, it may shed some light on why the engine runs a bit rough.
Does anyone know the length of thread there should be on the spark plug
Thanks for any help
Problem Solved.
I had NGK plugs in the car and I just checked the NGK website and it lists a totally different plug to what I have.
It looks like they have put the cast iron head plugs in there.
Glad you solved it.
Do not ever put a longer plug thread in a car without first knowing whether there will be any interference with the piston.
At the least you will leave exposed sharp threads that will attract detonation like a magnet. If you are unlucky, you can pound the side electrode closed or even damage a piston.
That kind of bad information from vendors can really hurt something!
