Default Heat Reflective Paint on SR

A while back I read an artical in a Rustang mag where they painted the upper and lower intake with a heat reflective paint. They even painted the under side of the lower. At the track they let the car warm up and used a heat gun to read the temp of the intake. I think it was something like 30 degrees colder AFTER the car ran the 1/4. The paint protected the intake from being heat soaked under the hood. Reving the motor would cool the intake faster than it could heat up.

My questions are:
1)has anyone tried this on a TPI car?
2)Does anyone know where I can find some of this paint?

I think I would use the Reflective paint as base and put eighter a clear or color coat over it. If I remember right, the paint isn't glossy and would be hard to keep clean.

The real kick in the **** is that I have spent HOURS and HOURS polishing my SR and now I'm going to paint over it!

either way is work ray.

polished alum oxidizes just looking at it. but once it's clean, it looks fantastic.

good luck either way you go, i'm sure it'll look nice.

hey to the top!! lets find this article. im going to go search now...

I found the following information about the reflective index of material: -
Black less than 10%
Aluminium Foil 35-55%
Semi-gloss White Paint 55-80%
White/Black/White Film 70-80%
Flat White Paint 75-80%
Polystyrene Foam Sheeting 75-85%
Mylar Sheeting (either type) 90-92%

There are some suppliers now claiming 97% reflectivity. I don't know if this is any use.

Does anybody know if the thing about splitting the light up instead of just bouncing it around it true or a myth that I'm victim to.

I have seen alota good deals on mylar with the peel off adhesive on the net somewhere. Like a 75 ft/18in roll for 30 bucks. That is cheaper than paint IF it is a better reflector. <----- found this on a marijuana growing site.... its good to see what kids do with information, lol

web search of: automotive mylar heat reflective adhesive

yeah lots of stuff... i know what i will try just for the hell of it.
The above crap i found some place on line in many different sources....
