Default Power Seat Problem......dignosis/question

Well, I finally got fed up with my power seat not working correctly, it would move up but not back. Very difficult to get in and out once it got pushed all the way up. Here's what I found.

There are three motors, one moves the seat up and back, one moves the back of the seat up and down, and one that moves the front of the seat up and down. To some of you this is common sense, but not having half of my motors working I never knew this.

They are controlled by 3 pairs of wires, a red and yellow for each pair. The green tracer is for the forward and back motor, the white tracer is for the back of the seat motor, and the blue tracer is for the front of the seat motor. To move the motors one way there is a 12v charge put on the wires and to move the motor the other way there is a 12v charge in the oposit polarity put on the wires.

Now here's the kicker, by disconnecting the wire connector under the seat and hooked a volt meter up to the end going to the switch. Guess what all wire pairs gave me the correct voltage and polarity. Hook the wire connector back up and half the motors don't work anymore. My guess, motors are bad, but the little voice inside my head( :blueangel: / :reddevil ) said holdup lets try something. So I hooked a few wires directly up to my battery and then to the motor. Guess what, all of the motors worked!!!!!

Conclusion/Diagnosis....   Perhaps the connections in the switch are good enough to give me a voltage reading, but not flow enough amps to spin the motors. That's about all I've got. But now I know why my passenger seat was always higher than my drivers seat no matter how I adjusted them. Both rear motors don't work and the pass is stuck up and the drivers was stuck down.

On a side note, I took out my seat to do this little endevor and it took me literaly a minute to do. Feel under the font of the seat for a metal clip holding the cusion down, pry that off with a screwdriver and lift the bottom cusion off. Then there's four bolts on the corners under where the cusion was, undo those with the air wrench and off comes the seat. Perhaps this will be helpful to those who have lost something under their seat or are putting on seat covers. Very easy procedure.

The points in the switch may need cleaning. You could be right about 12 volts and very low amps.
Is your meter able to read amp draw. Mine is good up to 10 amps but alot of them either have no ability or very low allowance for amps. If it does it may shed some light on the problem.

Well, I've got the seat adjusted where I want it so I think I'll leave it for now and put that on my list of things to do. But while I had my seats out I swapped the cushions. Now I've got a clean seat on the drivers side, no more annoying wearthrough from getting in and out of the car. YEAH! That was a very easy swap, took about 10 minutes since I had the seats out.

I just hope that this experience can help somebody else out that may be having the same problem.
