Just curious as I tried to put a set of Autolite AR13 racing plugs into my vette and it caused an electrical nightmare. Swapped them back to stock ACDELCO 1's and everything is back to normal.
I believe that all plugs are now resistor. They came about years ago to replace the solid core plugs as a radio suppression measure. Same with the plug wires. Champion used an R in the number J12Y became RJ12Y. Same with Delco. :chevy
Re: Sparkplugs with resistor in them? (69vetteracer)
:iagree: Yep, back in the old days of non resistor plugs, the plug wires also had copper cores. That was before we were running such high ignition voltage. If you run that stuff now, you will have a lot of EMF and it will interfere with your radio. I would think it might even goof up your ECM if it were bad enough.
I basically installed Autolite AR13 Racing plugs int he car, car started hunting for idle and stalling, the LCD display started flashing all randomly, my Digital FP gage was flashing on/off randomly too.
Swapped my stock ACDELCO 1's back in and everything is back to normal..
The ACDELCO's have no resistors in them (no 'R') but the AR-13 has a resistor I've looked up.
now let that thing RIP on the drag radials....remember, good burnout, keep an eye on the mirrors, when you see smoke, roll out under power. :smash:
