I have an 88 - why convert - mine runs around 193 degrees. Is there a problem?

The new design is better. Hince the reason they did away with the aux cooling fan. Plus I have a SD system now and I am looking at making a custom cold air intake. The newer desing would make life easier for this desing with it's angled back design.

I believe starting in '90, both fans became controlled by the ECM with A/C pressures governing the speed of the second fan. So if you want it to work like those years, you may need the ECM, a/c pressure switches & high pressure line, dash control, etc, along with the shroud and fans to make it all work. '90 is also a MAP. You could check with Street & Performance http://www.hotrodlane.cc for the ECM and harness. I don't think the high pressure line is available. Otherwise, you could stick with the '88 controls. By the way, some feel a feel a "pusher" is more efficient than a "sucker" for aux cooling leading to better condensor efficiency and hence cooler flow to the radiator. I believe the OEM's made the switch in anticipation of R134 realizing it would need a larger condensor and more flow to keep the pressures down and the vent temps comparable to R12 - not to improve coolant temps.
