What are the advantages/disadvantages to running a solid roller cam? I know the valves have to be adjusted every 5k or so, but that is about 2 years of driving for me. I have a new 219 cam, but I have an 86 4 bolt block and don't want to spend $400+ on lifters. Any advice is welcome.
In the high rpms hydraulic rollers build up alot of tension and start to eat a small amount of hp. The solid roller will not do this, therefor will rev alot higher. If you went with a set of shaft mount rockers (depending on how hard you drove it) you could get many more miles out of an adjustment.
i just put a wild "comp" solid roller in mine..came out like a blaze oif glory and then toned down. Realized the solids were setting off the knock sensor.. u gotta have it programmed for that. Make sure you have the right springs too... A solid sounds neat
