Re: help with my dash (Cory00)
You have a ground problem somewhere. Are your turn signal indicators constantly illuminated? To answer your question if anyone's had this, the title of the last chapter of Gordon Killebrews Digital Cluster Troubleshooting book is "Most Common Cluster Problem"
There are 4 lamps that illuminate your dash cluster. Apparently at least 2 are out that shine through the tach and the speedo. These are #882 lamps and the cheapest place to buy them is Walmart $4.96 ea. Remove the dash face over the cluster. You will see 4 shiny round metal lamp covers, pull them off, this exposes the lamps. The lamps are dual pin and slide into a socket, do not turn the lamps when removing, pull straight out. The best way to remove them is with some tubing that fits over the lamps or by wrapping a piece of masking tape around them and use a needle nose pliers on the tape ends. Measure the lamps with an ohmeter to verify the defective ones and I recommend replacing all 4 lamps so you don't have to do this again in a week for the older lamps. Plugging the new lamps in is easiest done by finding some tubing to slip over the bulbs to push them straight into the socket. These are halogen lamps and they get very hot and this heat can oxidize the contacts in the socket and cause a good lamp not to work. In this case you will have to remove the whole cluster and replace the sockets that turn and lock into the cluster rear circuit board. Probably you will get new sockets with the lamps. Try the lamps in the old sockets first. If you by accident turn the sockets in the cluster, then you will have to remove the cluster to replace the sockets. Pictures of how to remove the cluster can be found at http://www.batee.com.
If all 4 of your original lamps are working, but your tach/speedo LCD's (liquid crystal displays) are not working, then you will have to send your cluster to a repair station for repair and they usually charge $250. Hope this helps.
