Default Crossfire or carburetor? That is the question.

I bought an 84' vette recently with flowmasters

Which scenario will give me more bang for the buck?

Keeping the Crossfire: . If I have to keep the Crossfire injection, where can I start for performance parts, where can I find these parts, and what can I expect for an increase in performance? Lets say I have about 2-3 grand to fool around with, what are your feelings on headers, manifold, cams, nos, turbos, or some other parts that you have had success with?

Converting to Carb: I believe the Crossfire fuel injection can be converted into a carburetor. However I dont know where to find this sort of conversion kit, or how much it may cost. I think if I can get it to a normal chevy 350, I can treat it as a muscle car without the restrictions of fuel injection.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Xfire is just a stock SBC. It'll use all the same stuff as an 85 except for the manifold and induction system. The motor is stone dead reliable. Mine has 97k miles on it and still has over 175psi in the cylinders. Go here to find out what you can do http://www.crossfire.webhop.net

1.6-1 rockers, long tube headers, port and gasket match cfi intake or go with renegade, equivalent to the old Crane 2040 Power max cam, heads with appx 170 intake volume, no larger than that, tpi fuel pump. All this will work on stock ecm, and you'll drop from 15s to 13s . Gears are fun too, have 375 in my auto. trans 84.

You'll need a time machine first.

*Port the bejeezus out of your intake runners.
*Put on a decent dual exhaust
*Optimize the fuel pressure by jiggering the stock regulator to be adjustable (add better fuel pump from a MPFI application if necessary) typically ~14 PSI is good for these cars.
*Optimize ignition timing; these cars come with the timing way too far retarded

This should get you above 250hp and after that you'll need to consider better heads, more cam, tuning, and possibly a different intake manifold (you can still keep it "Crossfire" with the Renegade or other options.

IMHO, the Lsx series has no business in the c4.

i would carb it before going to an LSx

Why? If I didn't mind rewiring stuff, I'd go LS and failing that, carb if I had to keep the C4.
