what's the best L98 timing setting?

I have an 86 L98. what should the timing be set at for best performance and drivability. some say 0-2 of inital timing is this a good setting?

I had mine at 10*,, pinged a little bit. So I dropped it down to 8*,,, Its perfect for my car. No pinging at all :cheers:

Every car is different. Start at 6* BTDC base timing and go up from there until you see knock retard occurring or no change in performance.

On the dyno this year my car didn't care from 2-12. It really was a matter within 2hp, but every car is different.

HUGE difference between 4-10 degrees on my car when I put the stock chip in.

Now I just leave the timing at 4 degrees and program everything in the chip, and only 'fine-tune' with the initial timing setup.

In the cold weather in the NorthEast, I could go up to 8degrees and not worry about knock, and during the summer I had to drop to 6 and sometimes
4degrees due to humidity to not get detonation, and the car felt way slower/different.
