My odometer (90 Coupe) was reset to zero when the car was in for service (read below for the story). I have placed 3000 miles on her since the reset. She was running around 78,XXX. Is there anyway to reset the odometer to the correct mileage?
Thank you for any help and take care..
The Story:
I bought the car back in May '00. I brought the her in for service at a corvette shop (they sell and service corvettes) two weeks after I purchased it to get a few things fixed: 7" crack in paint near radio ant., fix oil leak, steering wheel would not lock correctly. So they worked on it and fixed some things and found new things to fix. When they were done with it, in October ‘00, I was told that they reset the odometer. He did not know how they reset the odometer to zero. I asked them to have the correct mileage back on the odometer. He told me that he did not know to do that and that I would have to live with it reading from zero.
In TN, no. Don't know about elsewhere. In TN when you sell the car you have to state if the odometer milage is corect and if not, the correct milage. As long as you're honest with the buyer, your legel.
The odometer information is not stored in the ECM it is stored in the CCM. So when it dies and you get a "new" one you get all zeros or what was previously stored in it. If someone wants to send me a donor CCM that has a known mileage in it I can crack the coding sequence. I've done this for many aftermarket Odo type storage devices. The information is stored in an EEPROM which must be unsoldered and looked at through PROM reading device. Not looking to create a Federal tangle web but if you know the exact mileage and your totally honest about it under a signed release contract, I can restore the mileage if you knew what it was and can recode it in for you.
I'm up for the challenge if anyone has the donor parts. Respond here or send me a private email at chris@kittmaster.com
