Default To pull or not to pull

I am in the middle of fuel injector cleaning and have torn down the penum and runners. Also replacing plugs, wires , cap , and rotor, valve seals. My question is, although I can't see any coolant leakage , should I pull the intake manifold and replace the gaskets. If I do pull it , should I use the rubber end gaskets or O2 sensor friendly RTV. I would hate to go to all this trouble and have to do it all over again because it develops a coolant leak. I have heard so much on the forum about the leaking coolant from intake manifold problem , that I am inclined to go ahead and replace it . What do you think?

Hi Dave,

You're just down the road for Lake Wylie. Check out [RCG] stuff over in southeast section.

As far as replacing the intake manifold, if it isn't leaking coolant or (more common) oil, I'd tend to leave it alone. However if you do want to replace the gaskets, make sure you really clean the mating surfaces. Follow the Helms Service manual for your year Vette when deciding whether to use the gasket or RTV. In the past on other small blocks, I perfer the RTV approach as those rubber gaskets seem to move if you're not lucky. Just so you know, the LT1s call for the RTV sealer.

Pull the intake?? For why? You're doing more work than necc. (IMO) You're liable to pull it, accidently sidestep the gasket and end up with a leak. If it's working (eg. not leaking) I wouldn't mess with it.

In fact, I think you already went to far just to clean/change injectors.

Just an opinion...

C4 Newbe, I had a hard start problem with leaking injectors. I am sending them to Cruzin Performance to be cleaned and flowed. I don't know of any way to remove the injectors without removing te plenum and runners. Also, I took the opportunity to do a light porting job on the plenum. Is there a way to remove injectors without removing the plenum and runners?
