Back to the tranny topic, I think he has the same problem i had a month ago. The problem with mine ended up being the sprag gears, i broke one by downshifting the tranny with the converter locked. Mine would operate fine in overdrive but in first or second the engine would return to idle if for example i was doing 45 mph in second gear, then when u went to accelerate again the tranny would stall out to like 2600 and then snap into gear. It was basically a $5 part that broke and caused this to happen.
My car would accelerate like normal under WOT but would have those problems on/off the gas.
Hay MN_Vette, good luck with whatever you chose. I would highly recommend converting to a manual valve body th400 with a Gear Vendors overdrive. Take a look at my web site. I have a page devoted to this conversion. I did it to mine last winter. It is just awsum. You are welcome to come up to St. Paul and take mine for a drive. It will make your decision for you. Or, you can e-mail me your phone number and I will call you and we can talk about it. Don't waste time with the 700r4. (I have absolutely no connection whatsoever to Gear Vendors. I did have some good conversations on the phone with their tech people while I was doing my install tho)
Okay, now the rest of you guys can keep posting about how to make a stronger 700r4 and such.
Don't feel too bad, I went through 3 trans in 8 months before I finally got one that has lasted about 3 1/2 years now. Last trans I broke the case on.
I have 1800 stall and 307 Dana 36 rear. I have yet to have a problem with the Dana 36??????

I'm not sure of the tranny temps, I'm going to put a gauge in this next time. As for the cooler I'm running a B&M tranny cooler.
Bob, The conversion i think I might have to consider, but this rebuild is still under warenty so its free :D If it breaks again I think it'll be a very viable option. I may have to take you up on a ride though next time I'm up in the cities. What causes the Overdrive unit to shift?? You mentioned that it was electronically controlled, but by a switch? an ecm? How's that setup? Cool web page by the way http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/bob...nversion.shtml
I have the Megashifter and I have their T-handle that has a little push button switch on the left side for my thumb. It's very slick. I think they make the handle for guys with trans brakes or nitrous or something, I dunno. But the switch works perfect with my Gear Vendors.
What if you went with a Th400? They take alot of power and dont break as often as a 700r4 but you will have to make or modify the stock C-beam to hold it. The only draw back to this is the mofication of the C-beam and no overdrive.
Unless you opt for a Gear Vendors overdrive which would set you back another 2500 apart fom the th400, but I heard that with it all you need to do is cut the C-beam to length and then drill for holes. The endshaft housing of the overdrive replicates the tailshaft housing of the corvette 700r4. WIth this you'll have a 6 speed auto. Right now I have a th400 installed but I still need to get the engine tuned up and have a 3inch exhaust installed. Good luck with 700r4's.
