I am curious to know if anyone has installed GMPP's fast burn heads on a L-98. The way that they are written up, it seems like they are a "no additional porting needed", use right out of the box godsend. I am entertaining doing some performance upgrades come springtime, and want to keep my options open.
Thanks
The Fast Burn heads are a great design, with arguably the most efficient combustion chamber design out there for the traditional small block. The only place GM fell short with these is the valves and crude valve job. Buy a set of 2.055 Intake and 1.60 exhaust valves, and have a great 3 or more angle valve job done, and the fast-burn heads will rock.
I am currently installing a ZZ4 short block with Fast Burn heads and the LT1 hot cam into a 90 Vette for a customer, the FB heads have an extreamly high intake runner which is designed for a Vortec style intake, to make the TPI unit work you will need to use intake gasket part# 12497760. When the TPI is placed on the FB heads, 1/4 inch of the top of the intake runners are exposed on the heads, the gaskets I listed are approx. 3/16 thick and will make the TPI work.
Beware of the Etechs. Reportedly, Scoggin Dickey has tested these themselves, with their TPI base. The results were that they did not put out anywhere near the power that the GM Fast Burns did. This despite advertising higher out-of-box flow numbers. I'm sure it has everything to do with combustion chamber design, mixture velocity and swirl, etc.
How does the Fast Burn head compare to the AFR 195 head?
Both have small combustion chambers designed for use with a flat piston.
Or does the Fast Burn head more closely compare to the AFR 210 heads?

Tell me more. Get this from S&D, magazine , wheere? I dont doubt you at all I just want the best info I can get before spending cash. :chevy
Do a search on http://www.thirdgen.org The post was from someone who called Scoggin Dickey and talked with one of the guys who was intimately involved with the Vortec TPI manifold development and testing.
