:D I have over 110.000 on my 88 vert and it generally looks and runs like almost new. Maintenance is the key to longevity!

170,000 on the car had a 115,000 on engine before rebuild and that was only to get more power not because it didn't run. I was running 14-13.9 in the 1/4 with that mileage.

My 94 has 104,000 and is still running strong. You just have to be maintenance conscience and keep up a routine and it will keep going for a good many years. Never put off any work that it needs the problems will compound with neglect :smash:

my 96 has 100K on it...had 20K when I bought it three + years ago...I had to have the trans rebuilt (under warranty thank god)....only repair that I had to make was the water pump was starting to go bad...just a small leak when it was cold..but it was only a matter of time..other than that just routine maintenance....runs great...doesnt leak or burn anything....great car

My 94 Auto has 91k. I have replaced the waterpump, installed a DynaSpark instead of the Optispark. I did the timing chain and gears while i was there, they were actually fine.

I have done some other things, such as upgrade the brakes and install new weatherstripping, tires, etc, but those things were done as preventitive measures to allow anyone in my family to drive the car and enjoy it.

These cars are an absolute blast. I have never felt a car that so effortlessly accomplished everything I ask it to do. Once you have blasted into a corner way too hot, stood on the brakes way too late and way too hard, and felt this old girl dig in, then blast out of that turn with the kind of accelleration that makes the sweat run around to the back of your head, then you will understand why these machines have such a loyal following. And they will do that all weekend long, then get you back and forth to work all week. Going to get a loaf of bread has never been more fun.

Find a car that you like, a color that you admire, and a tranny that matches the kind of traffic you will be in most often. I picked an Automatic due to heavy traffic getting on to the military base. Drive the car any way you like, fix things when they require it. You have one of the best technical resources anyone could ask for right here, with most folks owning the actual shop manuals for their particular year vehicle. There is not another vehicle on the planet that is so thoroughly understood, from stock to monster modifications. I would challenge you to find any car that is driven like a Corvette and has a better maintenance record, or better support when maintenance or modification becomes necessary.

Best of luck, and don't forget to wave!!

Word of caution, CARFAX does not catch everything and you have to jump

thru some mighty hoops to even be considered for their $5K guarantee..

I know, I've been thru it..

my 95 have 99k on the clock and i am the second owner.
except the mods i have done i change the followings parts:
. new set of bilstein
. front and rear rotors
. spark plugs
. fan relay

the engine don't drink any oil .

if the maintenance is correct don't be afraid of a hight mileage engine.

i drive my vette every weeks on french road with speed limit over than
55 MPH ................
if you find a good LT1 buy it :hurray: :hurray:

On the other side of the coin, my '86 had 39K on it when I got it, has 55K now after 4 years, and has everything possible that can go wrong with it go wrong with it. Don't trust the mileage, high isn't always bad, low isn't always good, if the car was driven by someone that knew anything, it will be fine, it has become apparent whoever owned mine did not, and it is slowly falling apart, I just want to make it to the winter, then I'm gonna give it to my brother-in-law and buy something else.....

My 92 has just under 120k on it. I will pass 120k this week, for sure (about 60 miles to go!).

It runs fine.

What I have found... cars age. low mileage cars age faster. They sit. They get driven on the weekends, and that's it. Seals rot. Exhausts rust. gaskets dry out. It ain't pretty.

Frank has shown the difference. Low miles are not the end-all-be-all of Corvette ownership.

Atrophy can be a real bitch.
Extremely well said.

I have an '88 automatic (coupe) that I bought in 1989 with 20,000 miles. It now has 178,000 miles. The heads have never been off. Replaced all intake gaskets due to small coolant leak on top of intake. The original tranny crapped out at 90,000 miles with a little help from me. I was at the drag strip doing a killer burnout when it shifted into 2nd gear and quickly downshifted back to first. That's when the tranny bit the dust.

The exhaust system plugged up about a year ago. One of the pre-cats broke down and sent all that crap into the main cat. High RPM acceleration was not possible. I punched out the other pre-cat and replaced the main cat.

Now, full throttle blasts are like the good old days. The 1-2 upshift lays rubber almost every time!

The fun factor far outweighs the maintenance hassles.

My '95 has 75,000 miles on her, and she runs well and quick. Had to replace tranny, that was only major repair. Not bad for a 8 year old daily driver.

I bought my 88 with an engine bay fire, restored the car with my step dad "he owns a body shop".

Since restoring the car I blew my tranny (my fault), the rear differential gears broke, changed some U joints, had the front disk changed had new brake pads installed, had an Intake manifold coolant leek.
I think that's about it, except for restoration parts and normal maintenance I never had any problems with the car.
Every thing is pretty much new or rebuilt under the hood :)
