I was driving about 60 mph yesterday (1994 Convertible) - went to exit freeway for work - applied brakes and they went to floor. There was zero resistence. Brake light came on. I tried pumping but nothing. I was approaching stopped vehicles and immediately pulled hand brake and pulled off to shoulder. After I stopped, tried pumping but to no avail. Limped into work with hand brake. Checked fluids etc - no leaks at brakes - reservoir full. Checked brakes an hour later and they were OK. Drove home and brakes worked fine. This is my 8th vette and never seen this before - any ideas? How come total failure. Thanks in advance for your help.
Sounds like a dead power brake master cylinder to me.
Wife's vehicle just did the same thing last week. Replaced it with a REMAN unit from NAPA for $54 bones with a one-year limited warranty. Get it looked at pronto! Brakes are serious business.
It's foolish taking a chance on harming/killing yourself or the next man in an accident because the next time they fail, (and they WILL) you MIGHT not be so blessed. :seeya
I had a similar problem almost a year ago. I got in my 93 to go over to my fiance's house and had no brakes. I popped the hood, looked around, fluid was fine, no leaks anywhere. Cussed a little at the car, closed the hood, got back in and had brakes. Never happened again. During the summer, the brake light on the dash stayed on and tracked that problem down to the ignition switch. Now that it has cooled down some here in Florida, the light acts like it should. Weird! Man, do I hate gremlins!!!! :mad
