Default NO DASH LIGHTS HELP

I have a 87 vette and the instrument panel was working and now it is black and the climate control has no lights either what can I check other than the fuses to see what is wrong. The I/P was working just fine then I started the car then no dash lights and the climate control went out long before the I/P lights.Any help would be appreciated.

If your bulbs are bad , you can replace them by removing the IP plastic bezel (Carefully) and the bulbs are under the shiney metal covers. Just remove the covers and pull out the bulbs. Then you can check them for continuity. When replacing bulbs , do not handle them with your fingers because the oils from you fingers will cause them to prematurely fail.
More likely you have a electrical ground problem. Chech the archives, there is info on how to remove the IP module and how to fix that problem. Otherwise you can send it off to have it fixed fro ~ $ 200.00 Good luck!

Check the 3A inst fuse! Most likely the lamps burned out in the climate control before your dash went out. Now the dash can also go out due to the socket on the front circuit board of the cluster. But first, pull the dash cover over the cluster and remove the silver lamp covers and remove the dash light bulbs and check them with an ohmeter as they could be burned out. If they are ok, then you need to pull the cluster. The two circuit boards in the cluster have a single row of pins on the front board that plugs into the rear board. The center most pin carries the lamp current and an age relaxed spring on the socket cause connection resistance and the lamp current causes heat , so much that is eventually unsolders the socket. Resoldering isn't an option, but an easy permanent fix is to solder a short piece of insulated hookup wire from the pin to the socket.
Help in removing the cluster can be had at http://www.batee.com

sooner or later most of us have this problem.I haven't done mine yet but it needs it.go to http://www.corvettedashclusterservic...0Process1.html I'm going to check grounds first. Bob Golden says the most common ground found to be loose is G401 located rear of engine below left hand valve cover and is sometimes disturbed during maintenance. Most everyone on the forum I've seen has done the cluster thing with success.good luck.
