LT1's don't have a keyed balancer (although the crank is cut for a key), is there a possibility that the balancer will spin on the crank when using a blower? Thanks.
Re: Will Balancer On LT1 Spin With A Blower? (BillWelter)
It can be a problem and it has happened to a few LS1 cars that has used the same press fit only dampeners. I don't think a modified stock hub is the way to go either. As having to machine the key way into the hub weakens the stock unit. The reason is, in order to machine the slot the machinist has to machine a groove in front of the slot in order for the chips to break off when the groove is made. This would substaintially weaken a stock cast hub. See my little sketch below. http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/tjwong008/public/hub.doc
I had a billet hub made from 4340 billet steel, my machine shop made it so that it had more material in the area where the groove was to be machined. Plus with it being billet steel that alone made it considerably higher strength than cast iron.

You guys are the best, thanks for the info. My machinist said he can cut a slot in my hub, but if that doesn't work out, I'll get one from More... Those guys have a lot of neat stuff! Anyone heard of a balancer rubber ring separating due to the supercharger running off the balancer? TJWong, where did you get the aluminum cog-drive balancer? Thanks again.

Bill, not sure if you have me confused with Brucevette or not. My cogged belt design is made of 4130 steel and was of my own design. It was fabricated for me by my local machine shop. I am in the process of getting a quote for having a couple more built for a couple a forum member and a local guy here in Portland.

I got a slotted balancer hub from More, and the slot was cut with a mill, not a broach, and the slot os rounded at the bottom. This looks pretty thin at the outer edge, this isn't going to break, is it? Thanks
